Frederick is a city in Tillman County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,805 at the 2010 census, an increase of 19.1 percent from 2,346 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Tillman County.
The city’s name comes from its founder, Samuel Frederick, who opened a general store in the town in 1894. The post office opened the following year.
In 1898, the Missouri, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway built a 36mile (58 km) line from Mangum to Frederick. The service was acquired by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in 1901, and the track was extended to Elmer in 1902.
The discovery of oil in 1904 brought increased activity to Frederick, which became an important shipping point for oil and gas fields in southwest Oklahoma. The city was incorporated in 1906.
