History of Fallon

The city of Fallon is located in the western part of the state of Nevada in the United States. It is the county seat of Churchill County and is situated in the Lahontan Valley. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 8,606. The city was founded in 1893 and was named after the Falls of the North Platte River.

The area around Fallon was first inhabited by the Paiute and Shoshone Native American tribes. In the early 1860s, the Pony Express ran through the area and a stagecoach station was built in the area in 1862. The Central Pacific Railroad reached the area in 1868 and a town called Ragtown was established. Ragtown was later renamed to Headquarters because it was the headquarters of the railroad construction in the area.

In1887, the Lahontan irrigation project was started in the area and a town was established called “Bristol”. Bristol was renamed to Fallon in 1893 after the Falls of the North Platte River. The falls were actually located about 12 miles upstream from the present city but the name was retained when the town was incorporated in 1896.

The city of Fallon grew quickly as it became an important farming and ranching center in the region. The area around Fallon was also rich in mining resources and mining became an important industry in the city.

The Naval Air Station Fallon was established just outside of the city in 1942 and has played an important role in the city’s economy since then. The city’s population has remained relatively stable since the 1950s.
