The population of the city was 28,531 at the 2010 census. It is one of two cities in the Elizabethtown–Fort Knox metropolitan area, which has a population of 149,607. The metropolitan area is included in the Louisville/Jefferson County–Elizabethtown–Madison, Kentucky–Indiana combined statistical area, which has a population of 1,269,702.
