Denison is a city located in Grayson County, Texas, United States. It isapproximately 75 miles (121 km) north of Dallas. The population was 23,583 at the 2010 census. Denison is part of the Texoma region and is one of two principal cities in the Sherman–Denison metropolitan area.
The city was founded in 1872. It was named after Hugh Denison, a British merchant who established a trade post at the site in 1847. Denison was once the site of many large flour mills and had the nickname “Flour Capital of the World.” It is home to the headquarters of the Katy Railroad.
In 2002, Denison’s historic downtown was selected for the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Great American Main Street Award. In 2009, Denison was voted the Best Place to Raise Kids in Texas by Bloomberg Businessweek.
Denison is home to Austin College, Grayson County College, and the North Texas interchange of I35 and US Highway 75. The city has two hospitals, Texoma Medical Center and Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center.

Denison is a city located in Grayson County, Texas, United States. The city is about 75 miles (121 km) north of Dallas. It is a principal city of the Sherman–Denison metropolitan statistical area. Denison was founded in 1872 in conjunction with the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad (MKT) project. The town was named after MKT President H.B. Denison, and was formally incorporated on February 18, 1873. In 1900, 6,855 people lived in Denison; in 1910, 11,693; in 1920, 14,748; and in 1940, 17,727. The population growth peaked in 1970 at 24,564 people. The 2010 census showed a population of 24,479 living in 10,136 households.
Denison is part of the Texoma region and is one of two principal cities of the Sherman–Denison Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is ranked 251st in the United States by population. Denison is notable for being the birthplace of Dwight D. Eisenhower and for housing the headquarters of the largescale mixeduse development, Lake Texoma. It is home to Grayson College, South Grayson County Healthcare System and both Texas Electrical Cooperatives, Inc. (TXEC) and Oklahoma Electrical Cooperatives, Inc. (OKEC).
