Datchet is a small town located in the Berkshire countryside in southern England. The town is situated on the River Thames and is home to a number of historic buildings and landmarks.
The first thing that you will notice upon arrival in Datchet is the Norman church of St Mary the Virgin. The church dates back to the 12th century and is one of the most wellpreserved Norman churches in the country. The interior of the church is decorated with a number of beautiful stained glass windows.
Next to the church is the Datchet Bridge, which was built in the 14th century. The bridge spans the River Thames and is a Grade I listed structure.

History of Datchet
Datchet is a village and civil parish on the River Thames in Buckinghamshire, England. The village is in the borough of South Bucks and the Cabinet Office subdivision of the South East. It is about 1.5mi west of Windsor and 5mi east of Slough. The 2011 Census recorded the population of Datchet as 3,291.
The toponym is derived from the Old English Dæccet and means “the ditch”. It was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Daceta.
In the 13th century the village was owned by the de Dachet family. In 1299 Walter de Dachet granted some of his land in Datchet to the Hospital of St Leonard at Windsor. In 1307 Edward II granted the Hospital’s land in Datchet to the Prior and Canons of Windsor.
The Hospital continued to own land in Datchet until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century. Henry VIII granted the Hospital’s Datchet property to his College of St George at Windsor Castle in 1540. The College held the manor of Datchet until it was sold in 1925.
Sir Augustus Clifford owned most of the village in the 19th century. His descendants sold the Clifford estate in 1945.
The royal dockyard at Datchet operated from 1513 to 1869. Many of the village’s streets and houses were built to house dockyard workers.
Datchet Golf Club was founded in 1892. The club house was built in 1895. In 1908 the club hosted the first round of the newly established Daily Mail Foursomes tournament.
Datchet railway station was opened in 1855. The Great Western Railway operated services to Slough and Windsor until 1965, when the Slough–Windsor line was closed as part of the Beeching cuts. Since then only a very limited local service has operated on the Slough–Windsor branch line.
