Coral Gables, officially the City of Coral Gables, is a city in MiamiDade County, Florida, United States, located southwest of Downtown Miami. The United States Census Bureau estimates that the city had a population of 49,700 in 2019. Coral Gables is home to the University of Miami.

The city was founded by George Merrick during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. The city’s architecture is almost entirely original, including the Venetian Pool and Merrick House. The area including Coral Gables was ranked 44th in the “2020 Top 100 Best Places to Live in the USA” by Money magazine.

Coral Gables is bordered by South Miami to the east, Coconut Grove to the north, Matheson Hammock Park to the south, and Palmetto Expressway and Doral to the west.

The city’s street plan is based on a gridiron plan accentuated by wide, treelined boulevards. Coral Gables is built around a central business district (CBD) on Coral Way, immediately east of LeJeune Road and west of the Palmetto Expressway. Merrick Park, located in the heart of the city’s shopping district, is home to many highend retailers as well as the Coral Gables Museum.
