In 1635, an English Puritan minister named Peter Bulkeley led a group of colonists from the town of Cambridge in England to the new world. They settled on a parcel of land along the Concord River which they purchased from the local Native Americans. The area was originally known as Musketaquid, or “grassy plain”, but the colonists renamed it Concord in honor of the agreement they had made with the Native Americans.
Concord quickly became a thriving community, and in 1641 it was officially incorporated as a town.
