History of Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach is a city located on the east coast of Florida in Brevard County. The city is known for its sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and surfing culture.

The area where Cocoa Beach is located was originally inhabited by the Timucua people. In the 1500s, the Spanish arrived and established a colony on what is now Merritt Island. The area was mostly used for cattle ranching.

In the 1800s, the area was settled by pioneers who built homesteads along the Indian River. The town of Cocoa was established in 1884.

In the early 1900s, the area began to develop as a tourist destination. The Indian River was a popular destination for boaters and fishermen. The first hotel was built in 1911.

During the 1920s, the area became known as the “Space Coast” due to the number of rocket launches that took place at the nearby Cape Canaveral. In the 1950s, the area began to grow rapidly as the space program expanded.

Today, Cocoa Beach is a thriving beach community with a population of over 11,000. The city is home to many popular tourist attractions, including the Kennedy Space Center, Port Canaveral, and Ron Jon Surf Shop.
