History of Chelmsford
Chelmsford, Massachusetts is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts in the Greater Boston region. The town is 26 miles (41 kilometers) north of Boston and is bordered by the towns of Billerica, Carlisle, Westford and Tyngsborough. Chelmsford is a suburban community with a mixed commercialindustrialresidential downtown area. The residential areas of town are primarily single family homes on medium to large size lots. The first settlers of Chelmsford arrived in 1624 and built crude huts along the Concord River. The town was officially incorporated in 1655 and named for Chelmsford, England.
