The last morning of our stay in Castine dawned again clear and bright. After a hasty breakfast, we walked up the street to say goodbye to the friends we had made during our stay. The little village was as quiet as ever, with only a few people out and about. Even the harbor seemed sleepy, with only a few boats moored at the docks.
We lingered in Castine for a while, enjoying the peace and quiet and the scenic beauty of the place. Then we walked back to our car and began the long drive home.
Looking back, we reflected on what a wonderful time we had had in Castine. We had come to the city expecting to find a historic, picturesque town, and we had not been disappointed. The city had lived up to its reputation and then some.

History of Castine
Castine, Maine is a historic city located on Penobscot Bay in southeastern Maine. The city was first settled by the French in 1613 and was the site of Fort Pentagouet, the first French fort in North America. The British captured the fort in 1674 and renamed it Fort Castine after the Duke of York, later King James II. The British held the fort until 1779 when it was captured by the Americans during the Revolutionary War. The fort was recaptured by the British in 1781 and remained under their control until the end of the war in 1783. The city was formally incorporated in 1796.
