History of Canton (Ohio)
Canton is a city in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The area was first settled in 1805 by William Henry Harrison, who later became the first U.S. President. Harrison built a log cabin and trading post near the present site of Canton. The community was known as “Harrison’s Mills” until 1814, when it was named “Canton” after the Chinese city.
