Bray is a town in Berkshire, England. It lies on the River Thames, upstream of Maidenhead, and is in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. It was historically part of Buckinghamshire.
The name “Bray” comes from the Old English bræg, meaning hill.
There is evidence of human occupation in Bray from the Bronze Age. A number of Roman artefacts have also been found in the area.
Bray was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, when it was owned by the Norman abbey of St. Peter at Ghent. The abbey held the manor until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century, when it passed to the Crown.
