Bradenton is a city located in the U.S. state of Florida. It is the county seat of Manatee County and is located on the southwestern coast of Florida, about 30 miles south of Tampa. The area that would become Bradenton was explored in 1539 by the Spanish during the expeditions led by Hernando De Soto. The area was mostly inhabited by the native Timucua people at the time, although a small number of Calusa lived in the area as well. The original town of Bradentown was incorporated in 1903.

De Soto National Memorial: This memorial commemorates Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto and the landing of his expedition on the shores of Bradenton in 1539. History of Bradenton

The city of Bradenton is located on the southwest coast of Florida. It is the county seat of Manatee County and the principal city of the BradentonSarasotaVenice metropolitan area. The population of Bradenton was 55,445 in the 2010 census.

In the early 19th century, the area that would become Bradenton was sparsely populated. The nearest settlement was 12 miles (19 km) north at Hardee’s Landing on the Manatee River. A post office was established in 1849, and the town was incorporated in 1903.

The first permanent settler in the area was Nathan Braden, who arrived in 1842 and built a cabin on the banks of the Manatee River.Braden’s Landing became a popular stopover for vessels traveling up and down the river, and in 1849, a post office was established there.

In the 1850s, Florida became a state, andManatee County was created. Bradenton was designated as the county seat, and a courthouse was built in 1851.

In 1855, the United States Army established Fort Manatee at Braden’s Landing in order to protect settlers from hostile Seminole Indians. The fort was abandoned in 1858, but was reestablished in 1864 during the Second Seminole War. It was finally abandoned in 1874.

In the 1880s, the Orange Belt Railway, a subsidiary of the Plant System, extended its line to Bradenton, and the area began to attract settlers and businesses. A drawbridge was built across the Manatee River in 1888, and the first newspaper, the Bradentown Herald, began publication in 1889.

In 1903, Bradenton was incorporated as a city, and W.G. Gardner was elected as its first mayor. The city continued to grow in the early 20th century, and by the 1960s, had a population of over 30,000.

Today, Bradenton is a thriving city with a diverse economy and a population of over 50,000. The city is home to several schools and colleges, including the State College of Florida, and Manatee Technical Institute.
