History of Boulder
Boulder, Colorado was founded in 1858 by gold prospectors and was originally called a “boomer camp.” The city got its name because of the large boulders that are found in the area. Boulder was a mining town during the 1800s and early 1900s and was also home to many outlaws. The city grew rapidly during the early 1900s due to the construction of the Denver & Boulder Valley Railroad. Boulder became a city in 1891 and a home rule municipality in 1974.
