History of Boulder City

Boulder City was established in 1931 as a construction camp for workers building the Hoover Dam. It was originally called “Hoover Dam City” but was later renamed Boulder City after the large boulders that surrounded the area. The city was built on federal land and was run by the US Bureau of Reclamation. It was the first planned community in Nevada and was designed to house workers for the dam and their families. The city was selfcontained with its own utilities and schools. By 1933, the city had a population of 5,000.

The construction of the Hoover Dam was a massive undertaking. It took over three years to complete and required the use of more than 3,000 workers. Boulder City was created to provide housing and amenities for these workers. The city was designed with wide streets, treelined parks, and a variety of shops and businesses. It was also home to the first hospital in Nevada.

After the construction of the Hoover Dam was completed, the population of Boulder City began to decline. Many of the workers left to find other jobs. The city became known as a retirement community and its population increased. It is now home to more than 15,000 people.

Boulder City has a rich history and is a unique place in the United States. It was purposebuilt to support the construction of the Hoover Dam and served as a home for the workers who built it. The city has since transformed into a thriving retirement community. It is a great place to live and visit.
