Bootle is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, Merseyside, England. Historically part of Lancashire, Bootle’s population at the 2011 census was 77,640. Bootle was originally a small hamlet built around the old Toxteth Road, which dates back to the 13th century. With the construction of the new Dock Road in 1848, the hamlet began to grow into a larger town. The town expanded rapidly after the opening of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in 1846, and the establishment of a railway station in 1848. Bootle was granted borough status in 1894, and became a county borough in 1913.
