History of Bennington
Bennington, Vermont is a town in the southwestern part of the state. It is the county seat of Bennington County and has a population of about 15,000 people. The town is situated in the Green Mountains and is home to several colleges and universities.
The history of Bennington began in 1749 when a group of settlers from Massachusetts established a town on the banks of the Walloomsac River. The town was named after Governor Benning Wentworth of New Hampshire. The town quickly became a center for trade and agriculture.
