History of Belvidere
Belvidere is a city in Boone County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,585 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Boone County.
The city is the site of Belvidere North High School, home of the Blue Thunder, and Belvidere South Middle School. The city’s main industry is production of the Chrysler Jeep SUV.
Belvidere was founded in 1835 by Jacob Haish, a settler from New Jersey. The city was named after the Italian city of Bellver de Cerdanya. The first post office in Belvidere was established in 1837.
