History of Bellefontaine
In 1817, Ohio was admitted into the Union as the 17th state. Bellefontaine is the county seat of Logan County, which was organized on February 1, 1818. The city was named after Major James Fontaine of the Kentucky militia who fought in the Revolutionary War. Bellefontaine is the only city in the world with this name.
