The paved sidewalk in front of the train station, along with numerous adjacent commercial buildings, was among the first examples of concrete pavement in the United States. Babylon’s success as a tourist destination was greatly enhanced when it became a stop on the Connecticut Murder Mystery Train in the early 20th century.
Many of the older commercial buildings in the village are included in the Babylon Village Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

History of Babylon
Babylon, one of the most glorious ancient cities, was once the capital of Mesopotamia, which is now known as Iraq. The city was founded in 1894 BC and was at its peak between the 18th and 6th centuries BC. It was originally intended to be a religious center, but it quickly became a center of politics and trade. The city was known for its grandiose temples and palaces, as well as its many gardens. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The city was conquered by the Persians in 539 BC. Alexander the Great conquered the city in 331 BC. After his death, the city passed through a number of hands before it was finally destroyed by the Roman Empire in AD 275.
