History of Andover
Andover is a city in northeastern Kansas, United States, and the county seat of Butler County. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 11,791. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area.
Andover was founded in 1857. The city was named after Andover, Massachusetts, where many of the settlers were from. Andover was incorporated as a city in 1878.
The early history of Andover is closely tied to the development of Butler County. In 1854, the Kansas Territorial Legislature established Butler County, and Andover became the county seat. The county was named for Major General Andrew Butler, who fought in the MexicanAmerican War and in the American Civil War.
