Alliance is a city in Lincoln County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 24,752 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lincoln County. Alliance is home to Carhenge, an oddity located just north of the city.

Alliance was founded in 1882 when the railroad was extended to that point. It was named by favorites of the newly formed town, who wished to have it named after their preferred candidate in the presidential election. The Alliance Land Company, led by Andrew J. Sawyer, platted the new community.

Carhenge is a replica of England’s Stonehenge located just north of Alliance. The attraction is built with vintage American cars that are welded together to form the structure. It is lit up at night and is a popular destination for tourists.

The Oregon Trail passed just west of presentday Alliance. Chimney Rock National Historic Site, 12 miles west of Alliance, was a major landmark for wagon trains on the trail.

History of Alliance

Alliance is a city in the Western United States, in the state of Ohio. The city is the county seat of Stark County, and is located in northeastern Ohio, approximately 60 miles (97 km) south of Cleveland and 20 miles (32 km) west of Akron in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Alliance was established in 1854 by combining three smaller communities. It was a station on the Underground Railroad. The University of Mount Union is located in Alliance.

In 1854, the city of Alliance was established by the merger of three smaller communities: Williamsport, Freedom, and Liberty. These three communities were located in Stark County, Ohio, on the Mahoning River. The city was named after the Alliance between the North and the South during the Civil War.

Alliance was a stop on the Underground Railroad. The city had many Quaker families who were abolitionists. The Quakers helped many slaves escape to freedom. The Quakers also established Mount Union College, which is now the University of Mount Union, in 1846.

Later, Alliance became known for its thriving rubber and tire industry. The city was home to the General Tire and Rubber Company and the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. These companies attracted workers from all over the world. Alliance was also home to several steel mills.

Today, Alliance is a diverse city with a population of over 22,000. The city is home to Mount Union College, the University of Mount Union, and several manufacturing companies.
