History
Abington was first settled by European immigrants in 1668, and was officially incorporated in 1694. The lands of the town were originally inhabited by the Wampanoag tribe of Native Americans.
Geography
Abington is located in southeastern Massachusetts, about 27 miles south of Boston and 4 miles northwest of Plymouth. The town is situated on the North River, which flows into Plymouth Bay just to the south of the town.
The town comprises four main villages: Abington Center, North Abington, South Abington, and West Abington. Abington Center is the primary commercial and civic center of the town, and is the site of the Abington Town Hall, the Abington Public Library, and the Abington Senior Center. North Abington is a residential village located north of Abington Center, while South Abington is a mostly residential area located south of the Center. West Abington is a mixed residential and commercial village located in the western part of town.

Abington was first settled in 1668, and was originally part of Bridgewater. It was established as an independent town in 1712.
The town’s early economy was based on agriculture, but later industries included shoe manufacturing and silverware production. These days, Abington is mostly a residential community, with very little industry left.
